Mimo is pleased to present “in two”, a solo exhibition by Amber Toplisek. Drawn to enigmatic feelings that evoke the space between bodies and the visceral weight of a photographic archive, the artist explores points of tension between forms and gestures, proposing existence in two places at once.

Through identifying physical elements that collect and construct time, Toplisek builds metaphorical timelines. Past experiences, generational stories, and non-memory memories anchor her fluid narrative. In “in two,” one is invited to walk in familiar places for the first time, rooted in ancestral significance; to meditate on the ceaseless washing away of water; to consider the inescapable reach of fate.

The kinetics of glass and water are tested through intuitive and systematic assemblages. Film stills and photographs are abstracted to the point of alienation; overlapping opacity shifts and translucency are applied to elevate and protect personal truths—often simultaneously. The poetic essence of the artist’s encounters is reflected back through these objects, containing fragments of Toplisek herself.
